How To Contact Equifax

By admin | September 30, 2007

If you are either looking to get started with Equifax or have a problem that you need to speak to them about, keeping their contact information readily available is a smart move.

If you are looking to get a copy of your credit report through Equifax, then you should call their toll free number, 1-800-685-1111. If going online is more convenient for you, you can definitely do that as well by simply directing yourself to http://www.equifax.com.

Finally, if you’d prefer to write to them using regular letterpost, their address is:

Equifax
P.O. Box 740256
Atlanta, GA 30374

If on the other hand you want to dispute an error that you came across on your Equifax credit report, the procedure is slightly different.

Regardless if the error is on the credit report or any of their other Equifax Personal Solutions, they will take care of you. You immediately need to start an investigation with Equifax Information Services.

This will be free of charge to you and they have three different options available to go about doing this.

Before doing so, be sure that you have your confirmation number of your Equifax report if you purchased it via the Internet or U.S. Mail. This confirmation number will be located at the top of the credit report.
If you have purchased your credit report through an Equifax reseller or your credit file is currently owned by an affiliate you likely will not have a confirmation number. In this case, you are to call the number that is at the bottom of your report, as that will connect you to the affiliate’s office where they will address your concerns.
So once you’ve located your confirmation number, the most preferable method to go about disputing an error is right online at their website. You will be asked to verify your postal code so they can ensure your credit file isn’t managed by an affiliate office and then once that’s verified, you’ll be asked to identify some more information including the confirmation number, your last name, street number as well as the last four digits in your Social Security number.
This will then start the dispute process and they will then investigate your concerns directly with the source (creditor, collection agency or courthouse) and respond to you within 30 - 45 days by mailing you the investigation reports. You should be aware that if you are currently in the process of applying for a loan it is your responsibility to notify the lender at once of any incorrect information that is on your report.
Then once the adjustments are made after the problem is looked into, you’ll want to re-issue the lender your changed credit report once again.
If you would prefer to call Equifax to dispute the error, you can do so by calling the toll free number that is listed at the bottom of the credit report. Note again you’ll have to have your confirmation number ready upon speaking to someone.
Finally, you can mail them at the above address to dispute an error as well.
If you have any other issues that you want to contact Equifax about, it may be worth your time to first go online to their website and browse around their frequently asked questions. There are lots of answers and responses in this section that address common concerns. This will be much more time efficient for you than having to contact a customer service representative and you will get the information immediately rather than having to wait for an e-mail (if you contact them with the online route).
So rest assured that Equifax is fully prepared to take care of whatever you need and has multiple ways of getting in touch with them. They place a high value on customer satisfaction and will always try and do whatever they can to see that your concerns are being addressed.
